Amazon.com announced Monday that it is adding 5,000 new full-time jobs in its U.S. fulfillment network in order to meet growing needs of  customer.

Amazon.com, world's largest web retailer, has announced 5,000 new job openings at its 17 U.S. fulfillment centers to meet the demands of its growing customers. The new jobs promise competitive pay, comprehensive benefits and company stock awards and bonuses. The new employees will be picking, packing and shipping orders to its online customers.

The new hires will increase the full-time fulfillment center staff by up to 25 percent. Amazon also plans to hire 2,000 customer-service staff, part-time workers and seasonal employees, reports Bloomberg.

The largest web retailer has been expanding its fulfillment centers to speed up online delivery  orders and reduce shipping costs. Last year, Amazon introduced 20 new fulfillment centers across the country and plans to build 5 more by the end of this year.

"As we get closer and closer to customers with fulfillment, we have seen growth," Amazon Chief Financial Officer Thomas Szkutak, said on a conference call July 25, according to the Bloomberg report.

Amazon's prime members, who pay $79 annual fee to enjoy unlimited two-day shipping facility and access to streaming videos, are the key drivers of the retailer's growth, according to Szkutak.

Median pay in Amazon fulfillment facilities is 30 percent higher than for people who work in retail stores. This excludes stock grants available to full-time workers.

The Seattle-based web retailer's new hiring spree is a precursor to the presidential visit Tuesday. Obama will be visiting a fulfillment center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to discuss new plans to increase private sector jobs in the nation, said White House spokeswoman, according to Reuters.
