In recent years, the New England Patriots have been linked to every big play wide receiver in one way or the other. They've been rumored to be in the trade hunt for guys like Larry Fitzgerald and Vincent Jackson. They've also been connected to pass-catchers such as Torrey Smith in free agency.

The Pats have proven that they don't need a No. 1 WR to succeed. But it's true that the offense has been missing that go-to home run threat since Randy Moss was shipped out of town. With Tom Brady another year older, now would be the perfect time to add a weapon such as that. That's why ESPN NFL Draft Insider Mel Kiper Jr. projects New England to select Oklahoma wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham with the No. 64 overall pick.

"It's a first-round talent with some off-field question marks," Kiper wrote. "But at this point you place a bet on talent. A pass-catcher with a huge frame, he can help extend the (endless) Tom Brady window."

Kiper is right to point out DGB's first-round talent as he has been linked to both the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans in the top 32 picks. However, his character concerns may drop him to the second-round where the Pats can take him. Green-Beckham started his college career at Missouri where he was a star on the field but was arrested multiple times for marijuana related incidents. He was ultimately kicked off the team.

Bill Belichick must be convinced that Green-Beckham's off-field issues are in the past. Character is important to New England, especially after Aaron Hernandez. If Belichick is convinced that Green-Beckham has grown up then he would be getting one of the most physically gifted WR prospects in the draft. DGB has drawn comparisons to Calvin Johnson due to his 6-foot-5, 237 pound frame. He may not have quite the same speed as Johnson but he does have above average separation and ball skills with elite big play ability.
