Frances Bean Cobain, who is usually shy and stays out of the media's reach, was the subject of both praise and media critic at the premiere of "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck," a documentary about her father, on Tuesday night.

She delivered a surprise speech to the crowd at Hollywood's Egyptian Theater that was gathered to watch the Brett Morgen-directed documentary, according to Yahoo.

"The reason I've been able to watch it six times is because of the film Brett made," Cobain said. "I didn't know Kurt ... He was a human being and I think that's been lost within the romanticism and the myth of him and his story. What this movie will provide, hopefully, is a real understanding of who he was. And I feel like he'd be really proud to have this movie made about him. So I'd like to thank Brett a lot."

The criticism that some tabloid outlets are giving Cobain revolve around how she was dressed at the event, according to Loudwire.

Cobain took to Twitter to defend herself, acknowledging that tabloids were focused on her skin complexion and outfit rather than the documentary.

A pair of prominent rock stars, Hayley Williams of Paramore and Gerard Way, former My Chemical Romance frontman, chimed in and defended Cobain.
