Reese Witherspoon has a deep appreciation for literature, and more specifically, author Harper Lee.

The 39-year-old actress has signed on to narrate the audio version of "Go Set a Watchman," Lee's sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird" and her first work of fiction to be published in the last 55 years.

Lee penned the story in the 1950s, but it was just recently rediscovered, USA Today reported.

"As a Southerner, it is an honor and privilege to give voice to the Southern characters who inspired my childhood love of reading, Scout and Atticus Finch," Witherspoon said in a statement. "I am eager for readers to be transported to a pivotal time in American history in the manner that only Harper Lee's gorgeous prose can deliver."

Witherspoon's ability to transform herself into any type of character will surely be translated through her voice.

Not much is known about the arc of the novel, but it will reportedly focus on an adult Scout returning to her childhood town and the issues she encounters in a more modern society, according to Time.

"The publication of Harper Lee's Go Set a Watchman is the literary event of the year, and Reese Witherspoon's extraordinary talent and Southern roots make her the perfect narrator," Sean McManus of HarperAudio said.

The Oscar-winning star loves books, and recently produced and starred in "Wild," which was based on Cheryl Strayed's 2012 memoir. Witherspoon, a native of New Orleans, also helped to produce David Fincher's "Gone Girl."

Witherspoon is a frequent reader, and she often posts her favorite selections on her Instagram page.

This is the first time she has narrated an audio book.

The print and audio versions of "Go Set a Watchman" will be released on July 14 - perfect for summer reading! Time to re-read "To Kill a Mockingbird!"
