Jurors in the courtroom were shown it first, but video of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev giving an obscene gesture to his jail cell camera was released to the public on Thursday.

The footage is from Tsarnaev's holding cell in July 2013, before his arraignment and just three months after the bombings, according to ABC News. In it, Tsarnaev stands up on one of the benches in his cell and holds his middle finger up to camera.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Gary Oliveira testified in court that he was in charge of operations regarding U.S. District Court Cell 4 when Tsarnaev made the gesture, The Boston Herald reported. Oliveira reported it afterwards. Tsarnaev can be seen approaching his door as if getting reprimanded in the video after he taunts the camera.

Prosecutors used the video to their advantage on Tuesday, telling the jury that Tsarnaev was "unrepentant and unchanged" in the wake of the bombings. It pokes a hole in the defense's argument, which is that Tsarnaev's older brother Tamerlan, who died while the pair were on the run, planned the whole attack and persuaded his youngster to participate.

Dzhokhar was convicted on 30 charges related to the marathon bombings earlier this month. Seventeen of the charges carry the death penalty. The same jury that convicted Tsarnaev will now decide whether or not he gets the death penalty.
