Taylor Swift devastated her fan base with news that her mother, Andrea Swift, had been diagnosed with cancer. No one shared in her turmoil more than family friend and mentor, Scott Borchetta.

"It's very sad that Andrea Swift has been diagnosed with cancer," Borchetta told Headlines & Global News exclusively after "American Idol" on Wednesday night.

Swift did not share the full details of her mother's cancer when she made the announcement on Tumblr on April 9. The founder of Big Machine Records insisted the family remains strong for their matriarch.

"I never doubt the power of that family," he said. "They are among the strongest people that I know and I kind of feel sorry for cancer because it picked an opponent that is very worthy."

The pop-country superstar has encouraged her fans to ask their parents to get screened for cancer and other health issues that can go undetected without regular doctor visits. Swift asked her mom to go to the doctor as a Christmas gift last year.

"Don't think for a minute they are going to give in," Borchetta said. "They're not going to say 'Oh poor pitiful us.' They are fighters and if it can be beat, they will beat it. They are such strong people and they literally have the support of millions. So a big prayer for Andrea Swift tonight."

Swift will kick off her 1989 World Tour next month in Tokyo, Japan on May 5.
