Bridget Jones is returning to bookshelves after we last saw the heroine some 14 years ago, with the release of author Helen Fielding new book titled Mad About the Boy.

The book cover suggests that Bridget Jones, who was portrayed by Renée Zellweger in both hit movies based on the books Bridget Jones' Diary and The Edge of Reason, has been rather busy. The cover depicts Bridget sitting on a chair with her back towards us and lying strewn on the floor are high heels, a teddy bear and some toy animals suggesting that she has had a baby.

At the end of The Edge of Reason, Bridget was engaged to be married to Mark Darcy, played by Colin firth on the big screen.

The storyline has not been confirmed - after all, Mad About the Boy could easy refer to a son as much as a love interest - it seems Bridget is still trying to kick her vices (cigarettes and alcohol), and dating and dieting remain a problem.

The cover design for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been voted for by over 117,000 fans on Facebook.

"My life has moved on, and Bridget's will move on, too," Fielding says in a press release from her publisher. "If people laugh as much reading it as I did while writing it, then we'll all be happy."

Speaking of the large period of time between the last Bridget Jones novel she published, Fielding, 54, said: "I sort of lost my voice with Bridget for a long time after the unexpected success when it first came out. It was very easy to write and be honest, then I got all self-conscious."

She told Radio 4's Woman's Hour in December: "I found last Spring I had new stuff I wanted to say. Things that didn't exist when I last wrote, like emails and texting. The way life is lived through Twitter. And a whole new idea for a phase of her life that I can't jinx by describing it."
