Boeing is working on a new airplane model that has the potential to make flying a more enjoyable experience.

The aircraft designer revealed new details about the new plane, called the 737 Max, and its specs on Thursday. The plane, first announced in 2006, will be a redesign of the original 737, an aircraft that has been in flight since the late Sixties.

Thursday's announcement follows five months after the company said that it wanted to replace all 737 planes with a new design by 2030.

"At the heart of the 737 MAX project is a promise to reduce the cost-per-seat by 8 percent, a savings that Boeing claims will give it the lowest operating costs of any single-aisle airplane. What's more impressive is that it's mostly design decisions which are being made with the goal to reduce the airplane's weight and therefore the amount of fuel it uses-which is where the money is saved but is also good for obvious environmental reasons, too," Gizmodo reported.

While there are many features to note in the 737 MAX, there are two that most riders will appreciate: a set of redesigned storage bins and wider seating. The new bins will store 50 percent more carry-on baggage than standard overhead bins. They are also expanded vertically so that passengers can put bags on their sides, "which means six bags can fit sideways where only four fit flat," according to Gizmodo.

The 737 MAX's seats will be widened from 17 inches to 17.8 inches and will have adjustable headrests and a storage spot on the top of the chair back, which will reportedly give passengers a little extra room while removing 200 pounds of weight from the plane.

Boeing plans to send the 737 MAX on its first commercial flight in 2017.
