"Modern Family's" Sarah Hyland was warned that she would never live a "normal" life - but her doctors at the time were referring to her health, not her future fame.

Hyland, 24, was born with several health issues and had a kidney transplant in 2012 because of her kidney dysplasia - a condition which eventually causes the organ to malfunction.

This news caused the actress to vow to herself to live an extraordinary life, reported Seventeen

Hyland told the magazine that she feels that she reached her goal when she landed the role of big sister Haley Dunphy in "Modern Family."

"Happiness, I've learned, comes from within. I am happiest when I am doing something I love. And I love 'Modern Family' - it's the best job I've had in my 20 years as an actress," Hyand told Seventeen. "It didn't come easily or fast or free: It took me 14 years to land a gig like this."

Despite her lows with her health, and going through the legalities of taking a restraining order out against her ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop last year, Hyland tries to keep her outlook on life as positive as her eternally upbeat "Modern Life" character.

"When you're feeling vulnerable, it can lead to doubt and second-guessing. It will steer you away from your goals and your happiness," Hyland told Seventeen. "Once you have a goal, keep moving forward - even if you're taking baby steps!"
