More than half of 1,207 adults surveyed by market researchers Survation want Prince William to be Britain's next king - 58 percent favored William bypassing his father, Prince Charles.

That percentage grew to 65 percent in the 18 to 34 age group. Women in particular favor the 32-year-old William bypassing his 66-year-old father, Charles, according to the Daily Mirror.

So, how many people do want Charles to be king? Only 18 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds, 19 percent of Scotland, 31 percent of Southern England and 22 percent of women polled preferred Charles. Another 17 percent prefer to do away with the monarchy entirely.

Those in the 35-to-54 age group seem to like the Duke of Cornwall a bit more, although the young Duke of Cambridge still beat him out at every turn.

"These results seem to show Charles struggling to win over women and young people," said Royal author Phil Dampier, according to the Daily Mirror. "Perhaps he should think about ways to get his message across or engage with them by social media such as Twitter. He won't be pleased by these results but nothing will deter him from believing it is his duty to take the position."

The order of succession is fixed having been determined by the 1689 Bill of Rights and 1701 Act of Settlement. If Charles wanted to step aside and let William succeed him, Parliament must agree.

What is holding Prince Charles back from becoming King Charles? Is it the ghost of Diana and the affair with his now-wife, Camilla? Is it his odd behavior and letter writing? Does he not cut a strong figure like his pilot son? Tell us what you think in the comments section below!
