Minnesota investigators are looking for a suspect who stole about $70,000 worth of bull semen from a dairy farm sometime in the last few days, Valley News Live reported.

Owner Daniel Weness told sheriffs on Tuesday that a canister containing bull semen and vials of embryos, which he extracted from his cows, was stolen from his dairy farm in LeRoy, Minnesota. The canister alone was worth $500.

The theft might have occurred on Easter Sunday, the only day Weness says he and his helper were away from the farm, the Associated Press reported.

Mower County sheriffs say bull semen is a hot commodity- it's even sold on Craigslist- and that people dish out hundreds of dollars for the purpose of inseminating their cows.

"There is a market for this, a lot of people bid on it or purchase it instead of transporting their animals to and from site," Chief Deputy Mark May told the Valley News. "They can purchase this vial of bull semen and inseminate their cow and I guess it's just a more reliable way to do it."
