Just as abruptly as Black Sabbath announced its farewell show, the heavy metal legends have canceled it.

Just a few weeks ago, Sharon Osbourne announced the heavy metal legends would play their swan song at an Ozzfest in Japan. Frontman Ozzy Osbourne was even quoted as saying he hoped the group's estranged original drummer Bill Ward would be on board.

However, those plans were dashed on Thursday, when a representative for the band released the following statement, according to British music news outlet NME:

"Despite previous reports, Black Sabbath will not appear on this year's Ozzfest Japan, the show will instead feature the festival's namesake, Ozzy Osbourne (and friends)."

The "previous reports" the new statement refers to were spurred when Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and manager, announced in an official Ozzfest video that Sabbath would perform at Ozzfest Japan, which is still scheduled to be held on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

"This will be Black Sabbath's farewell," Sharon said in the video, which you can see below.
