China has revealed three new submarines with the ability to launch nuclear-powered attacks and possibly take down entire ships, according to local reports.

The Type-093G submarines, shown on a Chinese TV station last week, are a faster and quieter version of its predecessor the Type-093, complete with a vertical missile launcher and a longer teardrop hull, according to China Daily.

The vertical launcher can send off YJ-18s, the country's supersonic anti-ship missile that can potentially destroy aircraft carriers.

"Judging from the vessel's design, the Type-093G should have strong anti-ship and counter-submarine capabilities," senior navy expert Yin Zhuo told China Daily. "It is also likely to be upgraded with the capability of striking land targets with cruise missiles in the near future."

China's fleet of nuclear-powered attack submarines, established in the '70s but not revealed until 2009, caught the attention of U.S. officials who are concerned that advance Chinese submarines might have the ability to strike American territories in the Pacific Ocean like Hawaii, The Independent noted.

According to Military.com, a 2014 report from the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission said China's fast-track naval development includes SSBN submarines with the ability to fire nuclear-armed missiles at targets thousands of nautical miles away.

The report, annually given to Congress, mentioned China's navy- part of the People's Liberation Army- and its partnership with Russia on developing attack submarines.

"China is pursuing joint-design and production of four to six Russian advanced diesel-electric attack submarines containing Russia's latest submarine sonar, propulsion and quieting technology," according to the commission.

"The deal would improve the PLA Navy's capabilities and assist China's development of quiet submarines, thus complicating future US efforts to track and counter PLA submarines."
