Nintendo hosted a Nintendo Direct video presentation on April 1st, where company president Satoru Iwata announced a variety of new updates and products that would be offered in the US in the near future.

A variety of popular games are receiving a major update. Mario Kart 8 players will receive a free update that will add a new level of gameplay, titled "200cc" which is reportedly harder than other levels of game play, including 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. This update will not only increase the AI power behind opposing players but will also require players to use their braking and maneuvering strategically.

The Wii U version of Super Smash Bros will also receive a variety of updates. Players will be able to buy Super Smash Bros Melee favorite Mewtwo as a DLC starting on April 28. Any player who bought Super Smash Bros for 3DS and for Wii U will receive Mewtwo for free. Super Smash Bros is also adding Lucas (a Ness clone from Super Smash Bros Brawl) to Super Smash Bros in June. Players also will have the abilty to vote on which characters they will see in future Super Smash Bros DLCs.

Iwata also announced characters that will be featured in the upcoming  Amiibo series. Ganon, Captain Olimar, Zero Suit Samus, Jigglypuff, Greninja and Dr. Mario are included. There will also be Amiibos for the to-be-released paint shooter "Splatoon." However, Japan and the US will receive their lines on different days.

Nintendo also announced many other games, including a 3DS game based on the popular Japanese anime "Attack on Titan", a crossover game between the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami series. In addition, a variety of DS and Nintendo 64 games will be added to the Wii U eShop.
