Kevin De Bruyne left Chelsea in January of 2014 when Wolfsburg purchased him for £18 million. However, if the German club team fails to finish in the top four in the Bundesliga or win the Europa League, it's likely De Bruyne leaves.

The 23-year-old midfielder has 14 goals and 24 assists with Wolfsburg this season in a total of 39 matches between the Bundesliga (26), Europa League (10) and German Cup (3). Due to his success with his new team, De Bruyne's agent said earlier in the week that the midfielder is now worth at least £50 million after Bayern Munich expressed interest in him.

In the event Wolfsburg fails to qualify for Champions League play via the Bundesliga or the Europa League, De Bruyne said he would consider a move back to his former club, Chelsea, according to Richard Jolly of ESPNFC.com.

"Manchester United and Manchester City are also interested in the 23-year-old, who is the most creative player in the major European leagues with 24 assists already this season, and both would appeal as possible destinations if he were to leave Wolfsburg," Jolly added.

But there's no guarantee he leaves the German club.

"However, Wolfsburg, who have occupied second place in the Bundesliga since November, have repeatedly insisted that they have no plans to cash in on the Belgium international, whose current contract runs until 2019," writes Stephan Uersfeld of ESPNFC.

Nonetheless, the Belgian midfielder has been endorsed by current Chelsea midfielder and former teammate Eden Hazard. The 24-year-old said De Bruyne is a "great player" and he knows "very well that he could play at Chelsea because he has tremendous qualities." At this point it's unknown if Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho would be interested in a reunion with De Bruyne.

It all depends on how Wolfsburg finishes the season and how much demand there is for the young midfielder.
