It looks like Seth MacFarlane's popular Fox hit "Family Guy" is going to be taking a trip to Fox's other legendary animated comedy by having the Griffin family take a road trip to Springfield to visit "The Simpsons."

That's right, Entertainment Weekly reports the two shows will have a crossover episode sometime next fall. Just like when the Jetsons met the Flinstones, the Simposons and Griffins have a lot in common despite their completely different settings, now it's time for the two families to come face-to-face.

The episode will be hosted on Family Guy's airtime and will be titled "The Simpons Guy" and will feature Simposns voice actors Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Yeardly Smith and Hank Azaria voicing some of their time-honored and beloved characters. Meanwhile, Harry Shearer is conspicuously absent.

"They cross paths with Homer, who graciously greets his new "albino" visitors, and the two families become fast friends. Stewie is impressed with Bart and his assortment of pranks, Lisa befriends Meg and tries to figure out exactly what it is that she's good at, and Marge and Lois put aside their housework in favor of some bonding. Meanwhile, Peter and Homer argue over which beer is better: Pawtucket or Duff," writes EW.

The two shows have taken shots at each other in the past as their clear competition for animation supremacy boiled over. However, those shots have gotten considerably more friendly over the years, Castellaneta even did a voice-over cameo in a 2012 episode and MacFarlane had a guest roll on The Simpson's season 24 finale.

As comedy blog Splitsider points out, the Simpsons haven't done a big crossover episode like this since the mid-90s episode in which Jon Lovitz guest starred as his character Jay Sherman from "The Critic," another animated sitcom written by some fellow Simpsons writers.

Unfortunately, fans won't get to see Peter and Homer jab at each other for more than a year. Because animated shows take so very long to produce, the episode won't be airing until the fall of 2014.

Tell us what you think. Are you excited to see the two families collide on screen or would you prefer the two worlds to remain separate?
