"American Idol" alum Chris Daughtry is embarking on a new path, but it won't stray too far from his music passion.

The 35-year-old rocker has signed on for Fox's new dramedy "Studio City." Daughtry will write original music for the show as well as play the part of Keith Rhodes, a drug-addicted rock star, People reported.

Essentially, Daughtry will embody himself as a character - minus the drugs.

Daughtry finished in fourth place on Season 5 of the singing competition show back in 2006, and after his elimination, he created the highly-successful band Daughtry. The band's self-titled album sold more than 1 million copies within five weeks, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

This isn't the singer's first attempt at becoming an actor. Daughtry appeared on the 100th episode of "CSI: NY" in 2008.

Daughtry will star alongside Heather Graham, Jeanine Mason, Riley Smith, Samantha Logan, Jordan Calloway and Timothy Granaderos.

"Studio City" will premiere this fall. Stay tuned for casting announcements and plot spoilers.
