Some of the New York Yankees players took their time today to honor one of the most memorable baseball movies of all-time - The Sandlot.

The classic movie came out in 1993 and featured Scotty Smalls as the new kid in town looking to make some friends. The other boys his age had their own baseball team, led by Benny 'The Jet' Rodriguez, and practiced each and every day at the local sandlot.

Rodriguez soon took in Smalls and gave him a glove of his own to encourage him to play with the boys when they needed an extra guy.

Smalls, a naïve adolescent, wasn't exactly an athlete and didn't have much sports knowledge. In fact, he knows so little about America's pastime that he brought his stepfather's most prized piece of memorabilia - a baseball autographed by Babe Ruth - to a practice at the sandlot. Smalls offered to do so after one of the boys smacked their last ball over the fence and into the yard where the legendary ball-eating dog called 'The Beast' reigned.

The other boys were unaware the ball was signed by Babe Ruth and since Smalls brought the ball and ostensibly saved the day, he got first dibs at the plate to continue the practice. The one time Smalls managed to make contact with a baseball, he hit the signed Babe Ruth ball over the fence and into The Beast's yard.

Here's what ensued in the original film after he did that:

And here are the New York Yankees players re-enacting the famous scene:
