Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe reportedly would consider re-signing with coach Stan Van Gundy in free agency.  Monroe has also drawn interested from a number of teams, including the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

This summer, all signs pointed to Monroe wanting out of Detroit.  He supposedly turned down near-max extension offers and opted to play out the final season of his contract in order to become an unrestricted free agent in July, seemingly to bolt the Motor City.

According to Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler, though, Monroe may have had a change of heart about Detroit.

"As for Greg coming back - maybe," Kyler wrote Monday.  "I have been told its a consideration and with Josh Smith off the books in many ways, there is cash to give Greg and he knows what Stan is about and is trying to do, so maybe."

Monroe won't be short of suitors in July.  Kyler reported earlier in March the 24-year-old was near the tops of both the Knicks and the Spurs' wish lists in free agency.  New York likely sees him as an upgrade at the power forward position to complement Carmelo Anthony, and San Antonio likely sees him as a young, talented big man for coach Gregg Popovich to mold into the next Tim Duncan.

Kyler also named the Boston Celtics as a possible contender for Monroe, who admitted in December he had "entertained" the idea of playing for the storied franchise.  Celtics president Danny Ainge, though limited by the league's tampering rules, seemed to indicate his roster needed a rim-protector like Monroe.

Another team to watch for is the Washington Wizards.  The Wizards have been linked to Monroe since last summer, with reports claiming the team was trying to trade for him.
