Ever since it was announced that Marvel Studios and Sony had reached a deal to share the rights to the character of Spider-Man on the big screen, attention has turned to who will play this new version of Peter Parker (and it is Peter Parker. Sorry Miles Morales fans). Rumors cropped up that hinted that Marvel was looking for a young actor they could keep in the role for close to a decade. That meant a high-school aged Spidey (thankfully, all reports point to Marvel skipping the origin story though). Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf, The Internship) was thought to be a favorite for the part. But now we're hearing the studio may go even younger.

BD confirmed that 16-year-old Mateus Ward (Hostages, Murder in the First) has auditioned for the role and that Marvel is looking at actors in that 16-17 year-old age range.

Spider-Man is expected to first show up in the MCU in next year's Captain America: Civil War. However, it remains possible (though unlikely) that Peter Parker could have a cameo appearance in a post-credits scene in this summer's Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Adding to the excitement is the continued rumor that Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man will play a major role in in the eventual Spider-Man solo film.
