Today, Google sent out invitations for a press event in Sundar Pichai, the company's head of Android and Chrome, for July 24.

"Please join us for breakfast with Sundar Pichai," the invite says. The breakfast begins at 9 a.m. Pacific in San Francisco. It will be live streamed HERE for all those who aren't able to attend.

As far as details are concerned, the invitation doesn't really provide any. However, PC Mag speculates it is likely Google will be unveiling a follow-up to the company's Nexus 7 tablet. According to rumors, it was scheduled for a July release. The first Nexus 7 made its debut at Google I/O in 2012, making an update overdue.

However, because Android's head will be hosting the event, it's possible some innovations with the popular os are on the horizon. Late last month the rumor mill churned out a leaked version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, however, it didn't include any real major changes.

Recent reports suggest the next update to the popular OS, Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie, is set for an October release to match Apple's iOS 7. Perhaps the breakfast meeting is a way to introduce new features?

There is also Google's Chrome OS. Chrome's lineup of notebooks has remained relatively quiet since I expanded its retail sales in June. The company has unveiled a high-res Chromebook Pixel but this year's Google I/O focused largely on improvements to Google Maps and Google+ and things of that nature. Perhaps the event is Google's way of showcasing some new hardware.

Google's Pichai has been in charge of Chrome and Android since his executive shuffle in March. However, prior to that time he was mainly focused on Google's lineup of Inter-net based notebooks. It isn't unreasonable to think he might be the perfect face to showcase some new hardware on behalf of the company.
