Comic-Con 2013 is two days away, and the rumors are running wild in the Marvel camp, as reports of the casting for "Doctor Strange" are out and there is one winner: Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Levitt is rumored to be Marvel's number one choice to play Stephen Strange, a neurologist who becomes Earth's mightiest magician after an accident leaves him unable to perform surgery.

Before you get too excited, there is no official confirmation from Marvel, or Levitt, that the A-List actor will be stepping into the role.  The Latino Review first reported on the scoop:

Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, BUT we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal.

Could Marvel make Levitt the lead in Doctor Strange?  Absolutely.  It would not be the first comic-based movie Levitt has participated in, and his roles in the Dark Night, Looper and Inception have shown Levitt is a great actor.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Levitt may be "too big" for Marvel's casting taste:

"Traditionally, Marvel has gone for lesser-known actors - or, at least, cheaper actors - for their title roles; prior to being cast in Captain America and ThorChris Evans and Chris Helmsworth hadn't headlined movies of that scale, and even Downey Jr. was on a downswing when he was cast in the first Iron Man."

Doctor Strange has been in the works for at least three years, according to Cinema Blend.  Rumors suggest there may be an official announcement about the film at Marvel's Saturday Comic-Con panel.

Levitt is set to make his directorial debut in the film Don Jon, along side of bombshell actress Scarlett Johansson.
