The birth of the newest baby Masai giraffe is being celebrated at the Santa Barbara Zoo in California.

There is only about 100 Masai giraffes left in North America, which makes every birth a big celebration, Sheri Horiszny, director of animal care at the Santa Barbara Zoo, told local news network KEYT.

The giraffe was named Asha, which means "life" in Swahili.

"She's a very big, healthy girl. She's 6-foot 4-inches tall and 182 pounds which is very big for any giraffe calf, let alone a girl," Horiszny told KEYT.
Born on March 14, Asha is the fourth giraffe birth at the zoo in two years and second  in four months.
The two newest giraffe calves in the zoo were born to the same father, Michael.
