Jimmy Kimmel revealed that he had to undergo several strange surgeries to repair the urethra of his penis.

Kimmel first mentioned his unusual predicament during a panel at South by Southwest in Austin over the weekend. His urethra, a tube that carries urine from the bladder and out the body, had closed up leading doctors to operate.

"It just kind of close up on its own," the late-night host later explained to E! News. "I don't know why it happened. I still don't know why."

The common diagnosis for this situation is urethral stricture, according to Healthline. It's usually caused by inflammation or the presence of scar tissue. Kimmel underwent two surgeries to repair his problem because the first operation was unsuccessful.

"The guy said, 'Your urethra's closing up and you need it operated on,' and they did," he said. "And then they said, 'Yeah, we didn't get it, it didn't quite work. We need to do it again.' And they did it again."

Kimmel added the entire situation, which occured years ago, was a "horrible horrible process."

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" will broadcast from SXSW all week, airing at 11:35 p.m. on ABC.
