It's more than understandable why the majority of NFL teams are not interested in adding defensive end Greg Hardy in free agency. The former Pro Bowler appeared in just one game last season for the Carolina Panthers before being placed on the NFL's exempt list because of domestic violence charges. While those charges were eventually dropped, teams are still wary of bringing in a player with that type of baggage.

However, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly negotiating with Hardy's agent on a possible contract, according to Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. Hardy may come with significant off-field questions, but he is a clear fit and upgrade on the field. The pass-rusher recorded 15 sacks in 2013 and 11 sacks in 2012. No one on the Cowboys roster last season finished with more than six. Dallas' total of 28 sacks was the fifth fewest in the NFL last year.

It's possible (even probable) that Hardy will still face discipline from the league in 2015. But if owner and general manager Jerry Jones is convinced of Hardy's character, then the edge-rusher would help to address a glaring need on this Cowboys defense.
