Briston Palin has accepted the marriage proposal of Dakota Meyer, only the third living recipient of the Medal of Honor.

Meyer popped the question during a Rascal Flatts concert on Friday night, according to Palin's blog. The band dedicated its song "Bless the Broken Road" to the couple before the war hero got down on one knee.

Bristol's mother Sarah Palin revealed that the 26-year-old Meyer first sought Bristol's hand in marriage from her father and grandfather in Alaska. The couple first met when he came to Alaska last year to film "Amazing America" with Sarah.

The two continued to cross paths and have visited each other's family homes. The 24-year-old Bristol writes that Meyer is "wonderful" with her 6-year-old son Tripp, whom she had with her former fiancé Levi Johnston.

"I always heard people say, 'When you meet the right one, you'll know.' I never understood that until now," the U.S. Marine wrote on his Facebook page.

Meyer received the Medal of Honor for his efforts during the Battle of Ganjgal in Afghanistan in 2009. He helped rescue 24 Marines and soldiers and 12 friendly wounded and recovered four dead service members, three Marines and a Navy corpsman.

"Coming back from Afghanistan there were days I thought I may never be happy again, and I know there's a lot of you out there who know that feeling," he wrote. "We only have one life to live and we have to do our best to live it the right way, and Bristol makes me a better man."

Truly the luckiest girl in the world, cannot wait to marry this man!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ A photo posted by Bristol Palin (@bsmp2) on Mar 13, 2015 at 11:50pm PDT

Sarah wrote on her Facebook page that Palin and Meyer's families "couldn't be happier" for the newly engaged couple.

"We're honored to welcome Dakota into our family. He's an American hero and patriot whose service to our country - like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients - has been above and beyond the call of duty; but even more important is he's a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them," she wrote.
