A judge in Ohio called a woman "evil" as he sentenced her Thursday to four consecutive life sentences for raping and abusing her own grandchildren for years, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

Edwina Louis, 53, was found guilty of four counts of rape, three counts of child endangerment, one count of kidnapping among other charges for the disturbing abuse prosecutors say went back to at least 2012.

Scioto County Judge William T. Marshall called Louis the most evil person he's ever seen in his nearly 20 years as a judge. He sentenced her to four life terms plus 37 years for the other charges.

"This woman, who never shed a tear or showed even an ounce of remorse, will never get out of prison," Chief Assistant Prosecutor Pat Apel said according to the newspaper. "That's the right thing."

Prosecutors say Louis, of Wheelersburg, starved, tortured and sexually abused her daughter's children, three girls and one boy all under the age of 12. The children, who were since removed from their home, were beaten with a belt, locked in their rooms and banned from eating, according to the kids' testimonies and Scioto County Children Services records presented at the trial.

Their torment ended in late January 2014 when a 9-year-old girl, who attended school online, sent her teacher a message saying she and her siblings were being tied up and abused and that she needed help.

The children were removed from the family's Wheelersburg home six days later.

When asked about the case, Children Services Director Lorra Fuller told the newspaper the agency had no contact with the family prior to the 9-year-old's complaint to her teacher.

But records presented at trial revealed at least four complaints of physical and emotional abuse and neglect against the family, The Dispatch reported.

"Children Services failed these children," Apel said.

Fuller did not return a call seeking comment after the verdict.

Louis' daughter, Bobbi Sue Pack, and her boyfriend Juan Sanchez were arrested and received the same charges as Louis. Both accepted a plea deal, with Pack sentenced to 10 years to life in prison and her boyfriend receiving 25 years to life.
