An Indian bride dumped her husband-to-be on their wedding day after she found out he couldn't to a simple math problem, BBC News reported Friday.

The bride, identified as Lovely, was all set to wed a man named Ram Baran in an arranged marriage set up by her father.

"But just before the marriage ceremony Lovely came to know that Ram Baran is illiterate and she refused to marry," the bride's father, Mohar Singh, told BBC Hidi.

She asked Baran if he could add 15 and six. When he answered 17, she called off the wedding in the Uttar Pradesh state village of Rasoolabad. The groom's family pleaded with Lovely to change her mind, but she wanted nothing to do with Baran, according to the BBC.

Singh said Baran's family never disclosed the groom's lack of education.

"Even a first-grader can answer this [the maths test]," he told the Associated Press.

All of the gifts exchanged before the wedding were returned to each party, police said.

The incident comes a month after another bride in India rejected the groom upon learning he was epileptic when he suffered a seizure at their wedding.

She married a wedding guest instead.
