"Clerks 3" is finally happening, but the news is bittersweet for fans of the franchise and acclaimed director Kevin Smith.

Smith made the long-awaited announcement for "Clerks 3," and his plans to film it in Philadelphia, via Twitter on Wednesday-- but he has consistently said it will be the final project he undertakes as a filmmaker.

According to Philly.com, a crew call for the film was issued by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office this week. The call cites production on the movie will start in June. "Clerks" was Smith's breakthrough into the mainstream, as it was awarded at the 1994 Sundance FIlm Festival and received critical acclaim afterwards.

Smith, a New Jersey native, filmed "Clerks" primarily in his home state and some of the sequel in California.

When he received an advancement for his hockey movie "Hit Somebody" in 2012, Smith broke the news that when "Clerks 3" becomes official, it will be his final project.
