"Glee" stars Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Chord Overstreet, Jenna Ushkowitz and Darren Criss all appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" Thursday to discuss the ending of Fox's hit series after 6 years and 6 seasons.

The stars revealed that the filming process for the season finale was emotional and the scenes had to be cut because they all couldn't hold back their tears.

"We cried so hard that they actually cut," Michele, 28, said. "We are loud criers, me and Jenna, it was like our vocal cords!"

The McKinley High New Directions were portrayed as one big musical family and that carried over into real life. The actors have grown up together and supported one another through tough times and then celebrated success in high times.

"We were watching Matt Morrison sing us all a song so we were very much in our own world experiencing this, and one take they pulled a fast one on us. They took Matt out of it and put basically the entire crew and production there looking at us," Criss, 28, said.

"It's as if you take every family member and friend that you've ever loved and that you have to say goodbye to and put them all in front of you at once," Ushkowitz, 28, added about the last scene they filmed.

Saying goodbye wasn't the only hard task on the set of their last day. The parting brought on memories of the late Cory Monteith in each cast member, according to Us Weekly.

His death hit Lea Michele - Monteith's girlfriend both on and off the screen - particularly hard. The powerhouse vocalist and actress struggled to come to terms with his absence, though her "Glee" family helped her through it.

On Feb. 22, Michele took an important piece of memorabilia from both the show and her beloved - the jersey that Finn (Monteith) was often seen wearing. "One last thing," she captioned the photo on her Instagram. Monteith and Michele met on the set of "Glee" and began dating in 2011. The two were still a couple at the time of his death in 2013.

"There's a moment in the last episode that we had [to honor Monteith], and then obviously when we wrapped we all took a moment," Overstreet, 26, said.

"He was there, though, we could feel him. He was there," Colfer, 24, added.

Monteith was found dead in his hotel room after overdosing on heroin and alcohol. He was 31 years old.
