If you're feeling down about your weight loss goals, this dachshund's story will give you the inspiration you need to get back on track.

Dennis the dachshund was adopted by Brooke Burton from a family member who fed him a diet of White Castle burgers, pizza and other human food, reported The Associated Press. The pup was so large that he couldn't take more than a few steps without losing his breath.

"I wasn't even sure what breed of dog he was supposed to be because he [Dennis] was so large," Burton told AP.

In 2013, when Burton adopted Dennis, he weighed a whopping 56 pounds. After she put Dennis on a dry dog food diet, took him on walks, and gave him a lot of attention, he started to lose the weight.

Today, Dennis is a happy, healthy 12 pounds.

"In the beginning, you could tell he was very depressed, that he really didn't feel good at all," Burton told AP. "He didn't have much of a personality. After he lost weight, this bossy little demanding man popped out. He's into everything, he wants to play with everybody."
