Minnesota police are looking for an alleged cruel prankster who left dog treats laced with screws and other harmful ingredients around a Twin Cities suburb sometime last week.

Open safety pins, nails and pills of an unknown substance are just some of the things residents of Lakeville found inside hot dogs and treats covered in peanut butter left around the neighborhood, CBS Minnesota reported.

Lindsay Durland told the station both of her dogs were hospitalized after consuming the seemingly harmless snacks. A total of 11 screws were taken from one of their stomachs. Her other pet swallowed a hot dog with open safety pins.

"One is still in the hospital with extremely high blood pressure which they think is from these unknown pills," Durland said.

The dangerous doggy treats were brought to the attention of Lakeville police after Kathryn Paulso's son took their golden retriever named Trucker for a walk last Thursday.

Luckily, Seth Paulson noticed something was wrong with the food Trucker just put in his mouth and told him to spit it out, CBS Minnesota reported. That's when he saw the nail.

"This is the piece of hot dog with about a 1-and-a-half-inch screw in it," Kathryn Paulson told the station while holding the nail in question.

Kathryn notified her neighbors and learned that other pet owners found hot dogs and balls made of steel wool with pills inside. So far no deaths have officially been connected to the treats. However, there were rumors of a dog in the neighborhood that suddenly died while going for a walk.
