The premiere of the campy new SyFy disaster flick, "Sharknado," the story of a tornado that spews menancing sharks, has created quite a frenzy of jokes, snark and buzz all across Twitter, CNN reports, as social media has never been "so fin-tastic."

The hype around the film comes out it being "perfect fodder" for the snarky world of Twitter, users gleefully employing the hashtag #Sharknado, a top trending topic on the social media site today.

According to FOX News, after the show debuted last night at 9 p.m. EST, "Sharknado" peaked at over 5,000 tweets per minute by 10:58 p.m. That's almost 80 tweets about the film per second!

The cast features Tara Reid ("American Pie") and Ian Ziering ("90210"), arguably perfect picks for a fun summer disaster flick.

"If youre looking for one dimensional characters, terribly inconstant lighting, & sharks getin thrown out of tornadoes I recommend #SharkNado," tweeted filmmaker Brian Naughton.

"How did these people not notice the 4,000 foot waves coming to crash on them? #SharkNado," snarked one user on Twitter.

But some people took advantage of the the movie's popularity on Twitter for some PR.

"We survived the #Sharknado!" Red Cross Oklahoma tweeted. "Be prepared for real situations, though. Download #RedCross Tornado & First Aid apps."

"Just pitched my script 'hurricanine' to the producers of #Sharknado about a hurricane filled with pugs," tweeted actor, producer and comedian Kirk Fox. "It's a very cute but deadly movie."

Actor Josh Gad also had something to say about the crazy new flick, tweeting: "If Spielberg could go back in time and stop Jaws from happening to prevent 2013's #SharkNado, I believe he would."

"Cancel next year's Oscars, because we already know what the best picture of the year is going to be," wrote msnNOW's Nick Mangione. "In fact, cancel all the movies, there's no need to make any more after this. In case you missed it, Syfy premiered its magnum opus "Sharknado" on Thursday, with #sharknado gloriously dominating Twitter for most of the night. The movie's about a tornado. Made of sharks. Really. How does any movie compete with a premise like that? Sure, "Lincoln" was great and all, but did it have a tornado made of sharks? Didn't think so. For the squeamish, the trailer does contain some really bad CGI shark gore, so keep that in mind before you watch. Though it's not nearly as bad as the acting in the actual movie was."
