Ever since Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced plans to reboot the "Spider-Man" franchise, the web has been prancing with speculation on who will take over as the iconic superhero - now that Andrew Garfield is out of the picture.

The internet has thrown out several names of possible replacements, but one name that had continuously popped up is "Teen Wolf" actor Dylan O'Brien.

And why not? The 23-year-old actor is clearly the right age and has proved his ability to do an action film and bring in big numbers at the box office with 2014's "The Maze Runner."

But according to O'Brien, rumors about him being the new "Spider-Man" are not true.

"Professionally, I haven't heard anything about it. I've only heard from, [rumors] online," the actor tells BuzzFeed.

"It feels so weird to say. It's so funny," he admitted. "My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They're like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?! It makes me feel bad because I'm, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation. You can tell them that it's not true."

O'Brien called the rumors "nothing but flattering," adding, "It's never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven't heard about it from a professional standpoint. I've always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that's, like, a big thing."

The "First Time" actor would be overjoyed to play the red-suited superhero.

"And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman's is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is f--king fantastic...I guess I'll see if I even hear about it? But thank you, Internet, for giving me false hope!" he added.

Last month, Marvel announced that Spider-Man would be joining "Iron Man" and "Captain America" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The next "Spider-Man" movie is expected to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
