David Fincher's film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel "Gone Girl" was released to widespread claim and, on top of grossing nearly $370 million worldwide, Rosemund Pike even earned an Oscar nomination for her lead role as femme fatale Amy Dunne.

On the back of that film's success, Flynn's second novel "Dark Places," is set to hit the big screen in France on April 8. On Thursday, the long-awaited trailer was released.

The story is arguably more twisted than "Gone Girl"-- "Dark Places" follows Libby Day, now an adult, who teams up with a "kill club" to investigate the mysterious murder of her family that took place when she was a child.

"Gone Girl" director David Fincer is not attached to the film at all. Instead, French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner is at the helm. Starring alongside Theron are Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult, and Chloë Grace Moretz.
