So, it seems like Randall Cobb is pretty much done for in Green Bay.

It's kind of hard to believe considering he's the type of homegrown talent GM Ted Thompson usually tries to lock-up and also considering the electrifying weapon he's become for quarterback A-A-Ron Rodgers.

Yet here we are, on the eve of the NFL free agency period and nearly every rumor and report out there is pointing to a quick and dirty divorce between the two formerly chummy sides.

Perhaps not coincidentally, those reports also tend to link the diminutive pass-catcher to the Oakland Raiders, a team seemingly bereft of skill position talent with which young franchise quarterback Derek Carr can grow.

Wednesday, a report emerged that the Raiders and new head coach Jack Del Rio and old GM Reggie McKenzie were readying to load up the Brinks truck and back it down Cobb's driveway in Wisconsin once the NFL's free agency period opens in March.

Thursday, Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports tweeted that rumors of the Packers and Thompson balking at Cobb's increasingly exorbitant asking price are indeed accurate and then, perhaps just for giggles, perhaps in a veiled allusion to talk that he's hearing behind the scenes, threw out that the "Raiders will pay."

Since everything else that has come out in recent days seems to jibe with what Robinson is saying and we have to assume Robinson isn't really Darth Sidious hiding behind a twitter profile, it's probably fair to assume that it's a notion he's hearing from around the league.

As Robinson noted shortly thereafter, while Cobb will have plenty of suitors come Tuesday, March 10, the NFL free agency market for a player of his small stature may not, in fact, be all that deep.

Still, all it takes is one team to prioritize a player to the point where they're willing to break the bank.
