Ford has dropped the price of its Focus electric 2014 model-year by $4000.

Ford Motors Company, renowned automobile manufacturer, has dropped the price of its 2014 Focus electric hatchback by $4000, making it available to consumers at $35,995 including a $795 destination and delivery fee.

The new model Focus will arrive at dealerships in the next few weeks. The price cut in all-electric compact cars is to keep the company "competitive in the marketplace." The Focus 2014 will not be short of any features following a price drop from its MSRP of $39,995 including destination and delivery fee of $795.

The news of the latest price was first cited by InsideEVs, after a sneak into the actual "window stickers" on new 2014 Ford Focus Electrics. A Ford spokesperson confirmed the new price to the news agency.

"...the 2014 Focus Electric offers customers a fully-contented, all-electric vehicle option. The new starting MSRP of $35,200 keeps us competitive in the marketplace and is an important part of our commitment to provide customers with a range of electrified vehicles to choose from," Amanda Zusman, Ford Spokesperson, told InsideEVs.

Facing stiff competition in the market, other automobile majors like Nissan and General Motors (GM) are also offering attractive discounts. GM offered incentives up to $5,000 on its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid earlier last month, which comes with a price tag of nearly $40,000 before other credits. Similarly, Nissan dropped the price of its 2013 Leaf electric by $6,000 earlier this year, which brought the base price of Leaf down to less than $30,000.

The sales of the electric and plug-in cars have been relatively low compared to gas cars. According to hybridcars.com, which tracks "green" car sales, electric cars only accounted for one percent of overall auto sales in the U.S. In June, Ford sold only 177 Focus electrics across the nation.
