As NFL free agency inches ever nearer, more and more teams continue to pop up as potential suitors for massive Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

You can now add the New York Giants to that list, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter via Jordan Raanan of NJ.com's transcription.

Schefter, appearing on an episode of the Michael Kay Show, included the Giants in a list of teams he believes will make a run at the big defender.

Later in the day, Ralph Vacchiano of The NY Daily News reported that sources have told him the team is, in fact, considering a play for Suh.

"As improbable as it seems on the surface, several NFL sources believe the Giants are considering a run at the NFL's top free agent when the start of free agency begins this Saturday," writes Vacchiano.

Schefter did admit on-air that it's mostly speculation at this point, but he's is about as plugged into the thinking of the NFL world as any member of the media. If he says something it's rarely, if ever, without some type of information or source backing it up.

Schefter, for instance, also reported in Sep. 2014 that sources close to Suh told him the idea of playing in New York "has huge appeal" to the soon-to-be former Lion.

As for his potential fit with the Giants, a player of Suh's caliber could find a place to produce in any NFL defensive scheme. The former first-round pick is a space eater and block occupier that constantly demands double teams at the same time as he's able to overpower and outmanuever offensive lineman in order to make plays. He finished last season with 8.5 sacks - a fantastic total for a defensive tackle.

Yes, limited cap space could be a problem - as of right now, barring a contract extension for recently franchise tagged defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, the Giants have about $12.7 million in cap space, per OverTheCap.com - and Suh is reportedly looking to become the highest-paid defender in the history of the NFL.

Where there's a will, there's a way though and if GM Jerry Reese and head coach Tom Coughlin believe Suh is the missing piece that would turn the Giants formerly strong defense from the middling group it was last season back into an elite, Super Bowl-worthy unit it once was, moves can be made and money can be found, perhaps by extending/restructuring the contracts of players like Eli Manning and Prince Amukamara.
