It's hard to say that the iPhone isn't a dynamite product on the market. But what if it actually was dynamite? This was what one man from Lindenhurst, N.Y., experienced in his pants last week.

Erik Johnson had such an experience when  an iPhone 5C supposedly exploded in his pants. According to Johnson, he was carrying his iPhone in his pocket like any normal person when it suddenly exploded in his pocket. "I had the phone in my pocket, simple little gesture, bent over to get keys and all I heard was pop," he said, according to ABC 7. "Sssssh smoke coming out. And just like an instant burn, my leg just starts going on fire, and I try to get it out, can't get it out."

According to Johnson, the fire melted the pants pockets together and made it impossible for him to remove the pants. Johnson eventually had to strip his pants off. Others around Johnson reported that they smelled burning flesh. WABC-TV New York reports that the heat ended up warping the case and destroying the device. After the incident, Johnson received second and third degree burns and was committed to the local burn unit for more than a week.

Angelbeat CEO Ronald Gerber told WABC-TV New York that the explosion was extremely rare and that most iPhones won't ever have this problem. However, he does note that sometimes small bits of damage can cause the battery to overheat and erupt.

Johnson plans to sue Apple for the injury, especially since Johnson claims that he used only Apple approved products to maintain his iPhone. But more than anything else, Johnson just wants things to go back to normal; "I just want my leg back to what it was, you know?," he said, according to ABC 7.
