One of comics' strongest female characters is bisexual.

Yup, that's right. Batman has some competition on his hands.

Writer Genevieve Valentine revealed that Selina Kyle - aka Catwoman - kisses a woman in issue #39, which she says should come as no surprise if readers have been paying attention and following the character.

Batman's arch-nemesis is seen kissing Eiko Hasigawa, "who has taken on the mantle of Catwoman in recent months, while Selina has taken on the role of a crime boss," according to CNN.

"She's flirted around it -- often quite literally -- for years now," Valentine wrote in a blog post. "For me, this wasn't a revelation so much as a confirmation."

Don't worry; there will be plenty of man-woman love, as Catwoman is still drawn to Batman and the two will be flirting often.

"Please be assured that Selina's longstanding connection to Batman has not been forgotten; that is not how bisexuality (or humanity) works," she wrote.

The comic's storyline was already headed in this direction and Valentine thought that issue #39 would be the opportune moment to define Selina's sexuality.

"Selina is a complicated person; she's drawn to complicated people. In some ways, it's that simple ... though of course, it's never simple," Valentine wrote.

This isn't the first time comic writers have experimented with characters' sexual orientation.

Batwoman was reintroduced as a lesbian character in 2006, CNN reported.

Though DC Comics has not commented about Catwoman's sexuality, fans are happy to hear the news.

"Like it seems unsurprising that Catwoman, the woman I most identified with as a girl, is bisexual but I'm crying now that she's like me," user mirandale1gh tweeted.
