Could the scandal over Giuliana Rancic's racist comments towards Zendaya have been avoided during the taping of "Fashion Police?"

A Us Weekly report alleges that the episode of "Fashion Police" in question was re-taped more than once because co-host Kelly Osbourne was concerned about Rancic's comments about Zendaya's dreadlocks. 

"They did the Zendaya segment three times," an insider told Us. "Three different takes. On the first two takes, Kelly said 'Guys, we can't say this. Zendaya is a friend of the show.'"  

In all three takes, Rancic reportedly used the offensive words that caused the entire fiasco in front of an audience of about 30 people. 

"Giuliana said the words 'patchouli oil' and 'weed' three times," the insider told Us.

Rancic was called out on her inappropriate comments immediately on social media - including by Zendaya herself. Rancic apologized the next day on Twitter and Zendaya accepted with hopes that it was a learning experience for both Rancic and the network.
