It's amazing what giving up beer can apparently do for the physique. For "Parks and Recreation" funnyman Chris Pratt it can apparently make you look like this new picture Tweeted out to his followers on Saturday.

The image of a six pack-clad Pratt came along with the words "No beer for six months. My brother made me post this."

It appears the "Zero Dark Thirty" star has been spending the past half of a year conditioning to get the kind of body that's fit for the Marvel superhero universe. Pratt will be playing one of the leads in Marvel's upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy" film. Pratt will play Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, a NASA astronaut who's the offspring of a human mother and an alien father. He becomes the leader of the central team of superheroes, which also includes Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Gamora, all roles that have not yet been cast. The new body-shot selfie was meant to get fans ready for the upcoming film, he even went as far as to hashtag the post with #GOTG (Gaurdians of the Galaxy).

In a tongue-in-cheek response on Twitter, Pratt's costar, and fictional boss on "Parcks and Rec" Rob Lowe retweeted the photo with the caption "You CANNOT return to Pawnee like that!" a reference to the fictional town the characters inhabit on the show.

This is not the first time the actor has gone from round to ripped. The actor, 33, who recently had a child with wife Anna Faris, got into better physical condition for his role in last year's film "Zero Dark Thirty."

Being in good physical shape is the best way to combat depression. You just have endorphins running around your body. It is the best anti-depressive that there is," he told People Magazine earlier this year. However, he goes remembers his place as a sitcom actor. "There is really no room for vanity in comedy. Comedy comes from pain and it is a lot easier to empathize with somebody who is out of shape."

"Guardians of the Galaxy" is currently rumored for an August 2014 release date.
