"Supergirl" is expanding its cast and added Emmy nominee actress Calista Flockhart as DC Comics character Cat Grant. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Flockhart ("Brothers & Sisters" and "Ally McBeal") will play the founder of CatCo. but got her start as a reporter.

The main character Kara Zor-El (played by Melissa Benoist) will be her assistant. The CBS superhero show centers around Kara, who shares similar powers to her cousin Superman. After leaving the planet Krypton she was adopted by the Danvers, who taught her to keep her powers a secret.

"Now, 24, Kara feels disempowered, a slave to having repressed her innate abilities. She's still pretty, but with her face hidden behind glasses and her hair pulled back, she doesn't know herself. But an unexpected disaster forces her to use her powers in public," THR wrote. "Energized by her heroic deed, for the first time in her life Kara begins embracing her extraordinary abilities. She begins helping the people of her city, and they soon take notice. She's even given a new moniker: Supergirl."

The cast for "Supergirl" also includes Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen and Laura Benati as Kara's mother. TV Line previously reported that the show is looking to fill the role of the villain Lumberjack, who will make his debut in the pilot.

Sources told the site that producers are looking for an actor who closely resembles the same frame as "Rory McCann, the 6-foot-6 actor from 'Game of Thrones'" to play the "big, burly monster who has battled Kara's cousin."
