When Reddit user ItaMarie went to go pick up the pit bull puppy she was adopting from an accidental litter, she ended up going home with all of her puppy's siblings and his parents.
The man who was getting rid of the puppies left them outside in the dirt with just a blanket in the frigid winter weather, according to ItaMarie's account on Imgur. She said the man also neglected the parents.
She decided to take all eight of the puppies with her that day, knowing that if they went to a humane society, they would likely be euthanized because they were sick pit bulls.
ItaMarie said that when she brought the pups home with her, she bathed them and gave them clean food to eat.
After the puppies were nursed back to health, ItaMarie found homes for all of the puppies besides Diego, who she kept for herself. Once the puppies were all safe and sound at their new forever homes, ItaMarie went back to the man who gave her the puppies and adopted their also neglected parents.
"She [the mother] hadn't been bathed in a year, when I petted her my hands would turn completely black," ItaMarie wrote after adopting the pit bull parents. "I thought she was an almost solidly black puppy, but no, she had mostly white fur! I didn't find that out till I bathed her like four times. Suuuper dirty! But now she's super healthy and happy!"
She said the father pit bull was in better shape than the mom, although he too had barely any muscle tone. Both the mother and father were excited to be getting their first-ever belly rubs from ItaMarie.
