A controversial picture of President Barack Obama flashing the one-finger affirmation of Islamic faith to dozens of African delegates is stirring quite some feathers.
The president was seen using a Muslim hand gesture to secretly signal solidarity to African leaders at last year's U.S.-African Leaders' Summit in Washington D.C., according to a picture clicked by the Associated Press and published by Britain's Daily Mail.
In August, African dignitaries joined Obama for a group photograph in a State Department auditorium. That's when the supposed "secret gesture" took place.
According to the American Thinker, the one-finger display is the distinctive Muslim gang sign.
"The index finger points straight up while the thumb wraps underneath and presses against the digital phalange of the middle finger. The remaining fingers are squeezed against the palm in order to highlight the extended forefinger. The extended finger is symbolic of the one-God concept of Muhammad and is understood by all believers to be a symbolic Shahada, the Muslim affirmation of faith: There is but one God and Muhammad is his messenger," the daily online magazine reported.
Thus "when believers stick their index finger in the air, they demonstrate they are partisans of Muhammad's God concept. And they also affirm their belief in Muhammad's claim he was the interface between God and man. They also demonstrate they are part of the ummah, the exclusive transtribal supertribe of believers that Muhammad started 1,400 years ago."
So by placing his forefinger upright in the air, Obama secretly confirmed his membership to the tribe, and African dignitaries allegedly understood the action.
But Snopes.com refutes the claim, stating that Shahada is a belief and not a Muslim gesture. "In Islam, the first of the five pillars is the Shahada. Shahada is the Muslim profession of faith, expressing the two simple, fundamental beliefs that make one a Muslim."
To understand the context of the video, Snopes.com also reviewed footage of the event.
"At the one-minute mark, Obama can be seen speaking to a fellow attendee. The gesture in question was clearly one of 'pointing' or 'finger wagging' and not a surreptitious signal to any parties," the website concluded.

Meanwhile, retired four-star U.S. Navy Adm. James A. "Ace" Lyons controversially revealed last month that the Muslim Brotherhood terrorism front group has managed to infiltrate every U.S. security agency under President Barack Obama's guidance.
With the Obama regime's support, the radical anti-freedom organization has been given the freedom to penetrate an increasing number of U.S. agencies, the former commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet said at the National Press Club.
Since Obama's election in 2008, the "transformation of America has been in full swing" based upon his campaign promise to "fundamentally transform America," the high-ranking admiral said.
"There's no question we have got a hell of a job ahead of us with the Muslim Brotherhood penetration in every one of our national security agencies, including all our intelligence agencies," Lyons told the audience, describing CIA head John Brennan as a "Muslim convert."
