It's been an entire decade since legendary Italian actress Sophia Loren graced the silver screen, and now the 78-year old is returning to star in a film for the first time in nearly 10 years, E! News reports.

Loren has chosen to act in her 40-year old son's film "La Voca Umana (The Human Voice)," an adaptation of a 1930 one-person play by Jean Cocteau. Her son Eduardo Ponti.will direct the film, and filming will take place in multiple cities in Italy including Naples and Rome over the course of three weeks.

The screen version will be performed in Neapolitan dialect as opposed to French, the language in which it was originally written. And this won't be the first time Ponti has directed his mother in a film. Loren starred in her son's 2002 directing debut, "Cuori estrani (Between Strangers)."

Loren's most recent role was in 2009 as the mother of Daniel-Day Lewis in "Nine," but she hasn't starred in a film since the 2004 comedy "Peperoni Ripieni e Pesci in Faccia (Too Much Romance…It's Time for Stuffed Peppers)."

The Oscar-winning actress was honored with a lifetime achievement award last year for her iconic acting career. "I am very honored to win this wonderful award," she said at the time.
