Chrysler Group LLC in a press release Wednesday, addressed the faulty airbag-control software issue found in approximately 282,000 minivans model-year 2013.

Chrysler, the Michigan-based automobile company, has recalled approximately 282,000 minivans model-year 2013, to address the airbag-control software issue in the vehicles.

Chrysler was initially unaware of the fault until a customer complaint arrived. An investigation confirmed the faulty airbag-control software and led to the recall of affected minivans including Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Ram Cargo Van.

The airbags that deploy from the steering wheel and the passenger side dashboard function properly, it is the airbags that deploy on the side of the vehicle on impact, which fail to work. Chrysler said that a component responsible for the function is programmed incorrectly; as a result the side airbag on the opposite side of the impact is deployed.

Chrysler has reported three related accidents and one minor injury. The company will notify its customers worldwide and reprogram the component at no cost. Most of the vehicles are in the United States (224,000), 49,300 in Canada; 2,900 in Mexico and 5,300 elsewhere, Chrysler said in a press release.

Chrysler also issued a recall of nearly half a million cars and utility vehicles the same day it recalled the minivans.

Chrysler has been facing a lot of functional issues in its vehicles. The company's past recalls include 2.7 million 1993-2004 Jeep Grand and Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty SUVs over fire risk two weeks ago. This recall was done  after refusing to comply with a request by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration initially.
