Police arrested three men Tuesday for allegedly murdering a Clark Atlanta University student after he responded to a false Craigslist ad.

James Jones, Jr., 21, was shot and killed Monday after he drove to Marietta, Georgia, about 20 miles north of his college, to purchase an iPhone 6 from a Craigslist ad, according to ABC News. Marietta Police officer David Baldwin said the Craigslist ad was illegitimate and the victim did not know the sellers. The ad appeared to be real in the hopes of luring someone in.

Police arrested Jordan Baker, 18; Jonathon Myles, 19; and Kaylnn Ruthenberg, 21, Tuesday around noon. They were arrested for felony murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault. Police said they were booked in Cobb County adult detention center.

A Cobb County Magistrate court judge denied the assailants bond at their first appearance Thursday, but they have not entered a plea. It is unknown if the assailants have hired attorneys or not.

Police originally responded to a motor vehicle crash, but then they realized what had occurred. Baldwin said Jones was sitting in his car when he was shot and killed. His car then rolled and hit another car and a tree.

Clark Atlanta University sent an email to its students informing them that the university was reaching out to the family and friends of Jones before finalizing any memorial tributes, Fox News reported. Jones was from Daytona Beach, Fla., and the university said he was a "serious scholar" and a kind person.
