A common critique of current technology is that people are attached to their devices, whether it be a smartphone, tablet or computer. Because of this harsh truth, it is common to bring a smaller device, like your smartphone, with you everywhere -- even into the bathroom. That's not always the safest choice to make.

On Monday, 24-year-old Yevgenia Sviridenko, a resident of Moscow, Russia, was accidentally electrocuted to death when her charging iPhone 4 fell in the water.

Sviridenko's body was found by her flatmate, who has not been identified. The flatmate was checking in on Sviridenko because of how long she had been in the bathroom, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reported, according to The Moscow Times.

It is believed that Sviridenko had been browsing on a social media site moments before she dropped her phone in the water.

"I walked in and saw her lying there all pale in the water," Sviridenko's flatmate said. "Her phone was also in the water. I pulled my friend out and noticed that her body was shaking from the shock."

The flatmate called emergency services immediately but efforts to revive Sviridenko on the scene failed.

This is not the first time an accident like this has happened in Russia, The Moscow Times points out. Last week in Bashkortostan, a 16-year-old girl died after taking a phone charger with her into the shower.

The investigation into that incident is ongoing, but an Investigatvie Committee spokesperson believes the cause of death was electrical shock.
