There aren't many things in life that are more heart-warming than seeing lost pets reunited with their families after an extended period of time.

Here's some of our favorite stories in recent months:

1. Mao the cat was separated from his owner for about a year and a half after being rescued from a house fire and nursed back to health. Mao found his way to a Kansas City animal shelter and workers helped him find his family.

2. Willow the cat escaped through the front door of her Chicago home. Five years later, she was found 1,800 miles away from home in Brooklyn, New York. Willow was identified as the Squires family's missing cat by a microchip implanted in her back, reported TODAY.

3. Casey the Schnauzer went missing from owner Rebecca Svetina's house two years ago (14 years ago in dog years). When the pup was reunited with her owner, she was so excited that she almost passed out in the adorable video below. (Side note: Casey was checked out by a vet and everything's fine - she was just insanely happy!)

4. Bailey the Yorkie vanished from his owner Grisel Jaramillo's home 6 years ago. Bailey was found in Indianapolis and identified by her microchip. Jaramillo was so excited to be reunited with her pup, who was actually the ring bearer at her wedding, that she told Fox 8 that she plans to throw Bailey a coming home party - doggy cake included.

5. Hana went missing from her backyard 3 years ago. Her family feels bad that she was out in the wild for so long and they are prepared to make up for lost time.

"We're just going to spoil her," Yuko McNesby, one of Hana's family members, told ABC 7. "We're just going to keep her home and we probably going to sleep with her together, just make her queen."

6. A man raised a lion cub for some time and then they were separated while the cub grew up. The lion's reaction to seeing the man again for the first time is priceless.

7. Lennon, a pet bird named after the Beatles' John Lennon, flew away and was lost for about two weeks. The devastated Acree family turned to Facebook to get their beloved bird back. Before long, Lennon flew to a friend's house who was able to return him to his family.
